Red Mountain Communications was founded in 2005 to provide senior level investor and public relations services to emerging companies.

We've been providing executive teams with award-winning IR and PR counsel for more than two decades, and we draw upon this experience to develop targeted communications strategies for our clients today.  We think outside the box, merging traditional and new media tools to build visibility and value for our clients. Jonathan M. Nugent, Principal and Founder

John Nugent has been a senior communications consultant for more than 20 years, primarily focused on healthcare and biotechnology companies in a broad range of development stages and therapeutic areas. As Principal of Red Mountain Communications, he works closely with senior management teams providing skilled and knowledgeable IR and PR counsel. Prior to founding Red Mountain Communications, John was Vice President of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations for BioCryst Pharmaceuticals and before that was Senior Vice President of Investor Relations at Burns McClellan, Inc. for 12 years. He has managed programs for over 150 leading biotechnology and specialty pharmaceutical companies including Alkermes, Cephalon, GelTex, Gilead, ImClone, Ligand, Medicis, MGI Pharma and ViaCell. Throughout his career, John has fostered relationships with professional and patient organizations and managed product launches, awareness campaigns, corporate positioning, crisis communications, national, international and local media, FDA advisory meetings and policymaker outreach on Capitol Hill. He is frequently asked to address audiences at some of the most respected life sciences gatherings and has been a guest lecturer in the University of Alabama, Birmingham’s (UAB) biotechnology program. John holds a B.A. in English from Lake Forest College. 



Derek Moates, CT(ASCP), Vice President, Development

Derek Moates has a diverse and comprehensive background in biotechnology. He has worked in both the academic and private sectors performing research for more than 10 years, including developing a DNA vaccine for Bartonella Bacilliformis at Georgia State University and has recently completed work on the three dimensional structure of a novel protein in Bacillus Anthracis.  Derek has a B.S. from Auburn University at Montgomery where he majored in Biology and Cytotechnology.  He is currently finishing his masters in Biotechnology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and is set to graduate in August, 2010.
